Comments: I have studied music theroy for afew years and as a self learner i enjoy writing out the things i've finally understand or think i do. And just met a new co-worker who just knows the notes and i'm the teacher with whole steps, half, so this site is Great! for me. I know enough to understand what is being said and looking forward to getting a better understanding of music.

Comments: This is the easiest to use, yet most comprehensive instruction book I've seen. It is straightforward and easy to understand. It uses music theory as a way to understand the guitar and make better music (which is the fun part!), rather than holding up music theory as a holy grail or an end unto itself. Thank you and good luck.

Comments: I just got my dad's old acoustic guitar re-strung the other day because I'm determined to FINALLY learn how to play it. There are so many websites and books out there that assume you already have a background in music that I've had a hard time picking up the _basic_ concepts. I don't know a C Major from a Z Minor (although I do know that last one doesn't exist :) ), but your practical music guide makes sense to me. I feel like someone's finally speaking english to me! Thanks a lot.

Comments: Yeah, this site seemed to be a pretty neat tool to get someone informed about the basics about all aspects of music as related to the guitar UNTIL (gasp!) I found an error!!! On the page entitled "Same Chords, Different Jobs," you said that a maj7 is built on the V of the major scale! ARGH!!! I'm sure this was just a typo. It's got to be a typo because we all know that a dominant 7th chord is built on the V spot of the major scale. Anyway, you may want to look over everything and make sure that the rest of it is correct. Later!

[Author's Note] I've checked that page and cannot find the reference you mention. All 7th chords are referenced as the V chord. Please send me the typo and I'll take another look. thanks.

Although I have been striggling a bit (coming from a mainly rock+blues background) sites like yours are helping players like me to learn a proper approach to the fretboard. Keep it up! One suggestion: could you perhaps make all the different pages into one pages? This makes it easier to save and browse offline. Or perhaps include a downloadable (printable?) pdf format. It'll really make a difference. Thnx! Gerrit

Chris B./Steph i find it kind of sick that you would use a guestbook to advertise like that. Your links don't point to resourcefull sites (such as this one), but rather too comercial sites where you will recieve credit for purchases made by readers of this page. Comments: I have been playing guitar for around 7 years now. Although I consider myself a decent player, I never actually learned the scales and fretboard like I should have. Instead of learning the base principles and techniques, I would play by ear. Although this method works for certain things, it does not teach you technique and therefore will limit your over all abilities. This online guitar guide lays out very effective methods for learning the fretboard and scales in a very easy-to-understand manner. This website is invaluable for beginners and veterans wishing to brush up the skills they wished they would have learned long ago. Thank you very much for this website!

You have also helped crystallize a lot of things I was aware of but have never quite been able to put into words (esp. the three note chord section). The 'less is more' notion is one that needs to be emphasized repeatedly to musicians I work with. Thanks.

Comments: I use to play about 30 years ago - never learnt properly - just used to learn "tunes". I have recently taken it up again (playing that is) and am determined to learn properly this time. I understood everything you had to say - AMAZING! of course it will take a while to SINK IN but - congratulations on a very fine site and method. I'LL BE BACK!

Comments: I am a Private Teacher/Vintage Repair Specialist/Flutemaker/Performer (Lotsa Modal tunings,Think Micheal Hedges here ok ) Just wanted to say nice work ,Keep it up , always jackasses who dont appreciate what generous people do . Time ,effort, etc, ...... There are so many free guitar utilities out there if you look , that putting another guitar site up is strictly a labor of love , and should be appreciated as such eh!

Comments: Thank you for this great guitar information site, I am a beginner guitar student, To note here I have learned you don't take guitar, You study it. So when I here some one say they take guitar lessons I like to help them to rethink what they have said. Your guitar Essential lesson have given me a parallel study and understanding that clear up on here how to learn the notes on the Fret board, and get it into my head. Thank you. Dale Don,
